As you probably know, VENDLET can easily be used for clients that are anxious or uneasy during transfers. This might be clients with cognitive challenges, that make it difficult for them to understand what is going on. In these cases, VENDLET in itself already has a calming effect.
However, for severely uneasy or anxious clients, who might also have a tendency to act out verbally or physically towards staff, combining VENDLET with tactile stimulation can have a further calming effect.
Tactile stimulation concerns activating nerve signals beneath the skin’s surface to inform the body of texture, temperature and other touch-sensations. This will help cognitively challenged clients to stay connected with their body and hence calm them down.
To use this technique, we recommend combining VENDLET with LEJRELET Tube 125. Simply place the support cushion on top of the client before turning them to the side as shown below:
Step 1: Place LEJRELET Tube 125 on top of the client
Step 2: Let the client hug the cushion as you begin the transfer
Step 3: Turn the client to the side and let them continue to lie with the cushion as needed.
